End child trafficking
Surrogacy or surrogate motherhood is a modern form of slavery. Please help us to stop babies being made on demand and protect women living in poverty.
Did you know that the vast majority of women undergoing surrogacy are pressured for economic reasons, and undergo renting out of their own wombs in exchange for a better future for their own children? Surrogacy, like slavery, is a profitable business. Worldwide, it is estimated to bring in at least USD 6 billion a year.
Let’s stop punishing freelance parents
Maternity benefits employees over sole traders. We don’t think that’s fair. We value the work of tradespeople, their creativity and their courage to build their own businesses. That is why we need to level the playing field. Their courage to have children should therefore also be appreciated. This decision deserves recognition, at least symbolically. And at least at the beginning. That is why, in cooperation with MPs, we are preparing a proposal to amend the Sickness Insurance Bill.
Freedom of choice for families in the first place: to nursery or stay with mum?
The current financial set-up of support for children’s groups financially motivates parents to put their children in nurseries at an ever younger age. It certainly does not help the children, but parents are the ones who are responsible for their children. They are the ones who make the decisions. The vast majority of parents know best how to make their own lives work. The state is not there to paint them a template. That’s why we propose that the state’s financial support be put directly into the parents’ accounts. They know best whether they will pay for the children’s group. Or occasionally use a nanny. Or they just keep the money for other things and the informal childcare will be appreciated. For their decision-making to be truly free, parents’ unpaid work at home needs to be valued.
Marriage matters
Marriage brings many positives. And not only for children.
Children thrive best with their biological parents living in a marriage. That’s not just what we think, but is proven by science in representative studies. People entering into marriage want to start a family and take responsibility for their decision to live with a spouse. They do not enter into marriage for a fixed period of time, so these people are to be valued.
A functional family based on the marriage of a man and a woman has always been the best way of raising children; it is a guarantee for future generations. That is why this family has a privileged position in our legal system. We ask that the protection of marriage, which is the foundation of the family, should also be enshrined at the highest possible level – that is, in the constitutional order.
